On June 25th 2011, Jokers’ Masquerade retained the Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people dressed as a Smurf in a single location at any one time after Sony Pictures Entertainment, the billion dollar entertainment subsidiary of Sony organised an event to try and break our record.

To mark the release of The Smurfs in 3D feature film, Sony undertook a heavy marketing campaign to specifically try to beat the Jokers’ Masquerade Fancy Dress record with a Guinness World Record breaking event at the O2 Arena’s Live Quarter in Greenwich, London. The organisers attracted an official and unsuccessful count of 2,082 Smurfs at the O2 which failed to break the Jokers’ Masquerade held World Record.

Jokers’ Masquerade broke the Guinness World Record for the the greatest number of people dressed as a Smurf in a single location at any one time in an event on June 9th 2009 at the Oceana Nightclub in Swansea. With help from the students of Swansea University we managed to smash the previous record by more than doubling the total number of Smurfs with an official total of 2,510. That record had stood successfully for over two years.

Managing Director Mark Lewis shared this morning:

“It’s no surprise to us that we have companies like Sony hot on our heels trying to break our hard earned Guinness World Record, we say well done to Sony, but our World Record will be around for a while and we challenge anyone who dare break it because our total of 2,510 will be hard to beat, especially if a billion dollar company like Sony with infinite resources can’t beat Jokers’ Masquerade.”

Jokers’ Masquerade has the largest online collection of adult fancy dress costumes and Halloween costumes in the UK today and has been in business and selling on the Internet since 2001. They have a 40,000 sq ft warehouse complex and orders placed before 4.00pm are shipped on the day of receipt (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays) complete with order and parcel tracking.

I must admit that this is one great insight. It surely gives a company the opportunity to get in on the ground floor and really take part in creating something special and tailored to their needs.
