art you can touch
After wandering around for ages today (more blisters!) I'm planning a quiet night in watching The Panel and munching on m&m's. Yum.
But I wandered out and took some photos down by Crown, which I've never actually sat down and snapped at night. I started taking photos of the big flamey tower things, but I gave up pretty quick and just watched the spectacle. It's so annoyingly extravagent and I'm sure it costs a fortune, but I love the flames. Just sitting underneath one of the towers, feeling the hot wind after each blast, is a great experience.
I also really love the towers they use for the flames — they've got water running over rippled stone. It's cool, art you can touch. There's heaps of it in Melbourne, which makes my wanders that much more interesting.
But I think my favourite thing at Crown would have to be the fountains outside. They're just fun. And the sound of all the jets pumping and the splashes all make a strangely rhythmical tune.
Last night there was a school group there, about 30 kids in maybe year 2 or 3, all crowded around the jets (it's all under the paving, so you can walk up to and over the actual jets). They were all running around screaming and usually getting pretty soaked. I don't think I've laughed so much in ages.
