Sadly I won't be hanging around Scotland for Hogmanay (the traditional Scottish New Years Eve festivities) but I'll probably be somewhere in central London where there'll probably be something on. And hearing Big Ben ring in midnight seems like a good second best to the street party in Edinburgh.
Of course the weather here may (literally) dampen those plans, so we may end up retreating to somewhere warm and dry to see in the new year.
What are your plans — a big night out or a quiet night in?

Somewhere through the Scottish fog we saw the vague silhouette of the Falkirk Wheel, an engineering marvel that deserves to be better known.
It's problem solving that's equal parts amazingly clever and brilliantly simple. In short, it's a lift that allows boats to move up or down an eight-storey drop between two canals in four minutes and with remarkably little energy. And it manages to look weirdly futuristic while doing so.
If you're ever near Falkirk (between Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland) it's worth checking out. If you're not, there's always wikipedia.

Half of the time I was in the northern outskirts of London was spent completely enveloped in fog, and the same impenetrable fog seems to have tracked me down here in Scotland.
It's a little cold, but it does make for spectacular photos.

A few folks have asked when was I heading home.
The answer to that is: not just yet.
There's still a few things to be done while I'm on this side of the world. When our van died we ended up having to skip a visit to Denmark, something I intend to fix with a separate side-trip. And freed from the one-hundred day deadline I've got more time to make silly designer pilgrimages to some favourites and a couple of new ones (I'm sure there's more).
The Danish tourism website even has a design-led tour of Denmark. This is a country after my own heart.

There's about twenty minutes left of Christmas night here in Scotland so I figure now's as good a time as any to wish you a very merry Christmas, in which ever part of the world you spent the day (I hear it's much warmer back in Perth).
Christmas here was a quiet family affair... all in all a pretty relaxing day. How was your Christmas?

The big trip around Europe is now over, and I'm back in London for a few days before heading up to Scotland for Christmas.
My head's still spinning from all the sights and sounds of Europe, and I've got at least 4,000 photos (at a guess) to sift through. Plenty to keep me busy through the Christmas break. This photo is from way back in September somewhere in Stockholm, Sweden, where the bikes roam free.
If you've got a question about the trip, fire away and I'll answer them either in future posts or in the comments. I've already got one or two to answer from an earlier post.

I'm going to mess with things and post a photo horribly out of order — this one's from Koln, Germany.
Which was at least sixty days ago now.
We're in the last two weeks of the Big European Adventure now, and I think I'm about to declare a blanket ban on visiting any museum unless it's got something of note other than old paintings and sculpture. Nothing against old paintings and sculpture, but I think my brain's at saturation-point for that.
Churros, on the other hand, I will never tire of.
