Easily Distracted
This trip is the longest I've been travelling since, well, ever. It's therefore also the longest break I've had from doing design work and, to be honest, by about the third week I was getting twitchy to do something creative.
Museums and their well-stocked bookshops are a welcome mental distraction but it's weird not having the creative outlet that design work's given me for the past six years. I'm not sure I could deal with the epic six–twelve month journeys that people I've run into are going on.
It's also made me realise how lucky I am to be able to spend my work days doing something I love, even when it gets tedious there aren't many things I would rather spend my time doing than something about design. That I can get paid for doing that is a happy bonus.
If I didn't have to work I'd probably still be designing something to while away the hours. It's my passion, it's my drive, it's an outlet for creativity.
What about you — what would you do if you didn't have to go to work?
