Friday Nights

There's something about jazz and Friday nights.

Tonight I'm trying out the debut album from The Conglomerate, and trying to ignore the fact that if I lived in Melbourne I could be watching them play live tonight at Bennett's Lane, the greatest jazz club I've found yet.

Disclaimer: I haven't been to enough jazz clubs to make such sweeping statements.

Making it through the working week tends to take it out of me at the moment so I'm something of a mellow Friday night kinda guy, not much of a party-goer (geez, saying that makes me feel old). Catching up with friends and then listening to some late-night jazz at home in the dark about sums it up for me.

Your idea of a good Friday night?

No need for a disclaimer, Bennett's Lane is undoubtedly the best jazz club in all of Melbourne and Brisbane (being the two places I've explored for jazz clubs). Another great jazz place in Melbourne (for the next time you are back there) is "The Kitty Kat Club" somewhere off little Bourke St.

If you're ever in Brisbane, there are two things that might interest you (based on what little I know of you from following this site) (1) The Troubadour - not strictly jazz because Brisbane has no strictly jazz venues anymore, but very good live music venue with often very good jazz players and (2) Brisbane Square - brought to you by the same folks what built Federation Square. I can't agree with you that Federation Square is a beauty - but my aesthetics are probably rather reactionary. I love the use of the space but the architecture makes me shudder. Brisbane Square is not completed yet, but I pass it on bus every day and eagerly await its completion. I'll post some photos on my blog and let you know, in case you're interested.

Sorry to have written so much - I didn't quite mean to (but am procrastinating from very boring work). I am thoroughly impressed by your photographic work.
