I think I'm going through a chair phase again, and it's the usual suspects on the wishlist: Eames, Jacobsen... I'm seriously digging the Eames Chair on the right, and one of these days I'll hunt down a store in Perth with them on display so I can find out just how comfortable they are (I'm told very, despite the looks).
There's a design-is-problem-solving rant there, and anyone who's heard the story about our design class' trip to the Vitra chair exhibition years ago knows how it ends. I'll save everyone else the pain and move on quickly.

Thankfully yesterday's power crisis ended in the early afternoon, so we didn't have to sit through 40°C heat in the office with no aircon for a whole day, just most of it.

It's damn hot, real humid, and under the emergency power restrictions if we use our air-con here at work there's a $10k fine. Welcome to Perth.
If my car wasn't being serviced today I'd be sitting in the carpark with the engine running and the aircon on full blast, working happily on my laptop over wireless.
The joy of small business is that we can't risk the 10k fine, but we also know that no work will get done in here today without air conditioning. I think that's called a lose-lose situation.

Yeah I've been quiet lately but there's a good reason: I've got a new toy! I finally got my 20gig iPod a couple of weeks ago and damn if it ain't the coolest little gadget. Hell, it even made washing my car yesterday afternoon kinda fun. It's from Apple, it looks amazing and it's got all my CDs on it. I think I'm in love.

My old Nokia mobile phone died a slow painful death over the past few months, which ended in it steadfastly refusing to charge its battery. I finally got my replacement today, which has the added bonus of an integrated FM radio (I can one-up that feature, but more on that later).
How do they describe the FM radio? "Groove to the latest hits in your leisure hour."
Now I've been described as a workaholic in the past, and even I have hours of free time...

A quick tip for anybody with a few photos in Apple's iLife: iPhoto's smart photo albums also map through to the Photos option in the system screensaver.
Right now I've got mine set up to show all my photos marked as nature and rated 4 or more stars. It's even easier to set it up to show all photos taken in the last month that are rated at least 3 stars. That way your screensaver is always showing fresh photos with no extra effort... handy!

I've been out enjoying Summer... there are some bits of news and a few photos that I'll get around to posting soon. Promise.
In the meantime, what's happening in your world?
